 How Does it Work?

01 : Discovery Phase

Welcome to your new website planning process! First things first: We’ll schedule a 30-minute initial consultation to discuss the project in detail, and, before we meet I’ll send you a client intake questionnaire to gather information for your project and answer any questions you may have.

Once we discuss the details, and agree on a project schedule, I'll send you a contract and an invoice for the first payment (a retainer, 50% of total), so that I can reserve time for your project on my calendar.

02: Production Phase

Armed with all your materials, I’ll begin working on your website. I’ll dive in to the preliminary market research, which will inform your digital marketing strategy and your copy, and I’ll begin developing the 'look and feel' of your site. You’ll have an opportunity to review and provide feedback on everything.

Once you’ve approved the first round of edits, I’ll get to work on building the site. When the content is in place, you'll have a second opportunity to review the work and provide feedback. Once I’ve implemented the updates, I’ll work on finalizing the technical side of things.

03 : Launch Phase

Once the production is complete, and you’ve selected your website plan, it’s time to launch your brand-new site!

At this point, I’ll send you an invoice for the balance payment, and I’ll provide your site graphics, your branding guidelines, and a customized instructional video with step-by-step instructions on how to update your website in the future. You’ll also get 30-days of free email consultations following your site launch, in case you have questions.

Congratulations! It’s time to celebrate!

Why Work With Me?

I offer all-in-one packages, and I’ll treat your creative business as my own. I’ll be digging into the research to develop your digital strategy, I’ll be writing your SEO-rich website copy, I’ll be developing your branding and website design, and creating customized video training, to show you how to edit your site in the future.

I wear many hats! Your project will benefit from my PhD-level expertise in media and communications, and my background as an art director and graphic designer. I’m also an artist myself, so I ‘understand the assignment’ and I’m passionate about helping other artists and creatives achieve their goals.

I’m a Squarespace Circle Member. This means you get to benefit from a few perks, including 20% off your first year plan, which is a nice savings on your overall investment.

“I cannot recommend Elizabeth's services highly enough. I constantly receive positive feedback. Elizabeth's method of going from project creation to completion was organized and well thought out. I am also impressed with Elizabeth's artistic intuition and unique ability to connect on a human level with clients. I couldn't be happier.”

FAQs

  • I enjoy working with artists and creative entrepreneurs, small-to-midsize businesses, women-led companies, and businesses owned or led by BiPOC. If you don’t see your business type listed, let’s chat, and see if we’re a good fit!

  • Yes. I have worked with other platforms in the past, but I fell in love with Squarespace, so it’s what I use myself, and what I recommend to my clients — with a few exceptions.

  • This special designation means that the designer has qualified to be a part of Squarespace’s ‘inner circle.’ As a member, I can offer my clients a 20% discount on their first payment. That’s a significant savings on a one-year plan, which in most cases can also include one year free on a new domain.

  • Squarespace already has lots of basic SEO features that are “built in” to the platform. To make sure your site takes full advantage of all that power, I’ll also do the following:

Optimize images so your site loads quickly

Add SEO-rich page descriptions based on our agreed-upon strategy.

    Add descriptions to improve accessibility

    Simplify your site navigation

Ensure that page content is keyword appropriate, adequate in length and that texts follow an appropriate hierarchy.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about this!

  • If you have an existing domain (ex: FirstNameLastName.com) this just means that I can connect that to your new Squarespace website, no matter where it lives, or I can transfer it to Squarespace so everything is managed in one place.

For new sites, you can purchase a domain through the registry of your preference (Ex: GoDaddy), or you may be able to get your first year free with Squarespace should you want to explore that option (the cost per year is usually around $20-22). This option is extended to new Squarespace users on most domains.

  • The number of images is up to you, but I generally recommend that you have one or more images for your bio/about page, and between 12 and 20 images for each portfolio image gallery.

For e-commerce shops, you should have between 4 - 6 images for each product listing.

Images can make or break a website, so it makes sense to invest in the best possible quality images, since you are active in a visual-first industry. If you have the budget for a professional photographer, by all means make the investment, as it will pay off in spades.

Remember to gather images in a variety of formats (landscape, square and vertical, for example) so you can use them across all your media properties.

  • Yes, I do. Contact me to discuss the details, so I can provide a quote based on your project particulars.

  • I generally break project fees down into 2 payments, which includes a non-refundable, non-transferable retainer fee, to schedule your project on my calendar. The balance payment is due once your work is complete and files have been handed over to you.

  • Yes. I have a non-refundable initial payment ensures that I reserve time on my schedule specifically for your project. That fee is applied to your overall project cost.

  • Yes, I do. With web design projects, depending on the complexity of the project, I may break the fee into 3 payments. Please get in touch.

  • The answer to this question, I am happy to say is no. The reason I don’t offer month-to-month retainer services is because Squarespace is an all-in-one solution, which means it doesn’t require technical maintenance. That’s all taken care of by Squarespace, behind the scenes, and it all happens automatically so you don’t have to think about it. This is one of the reasons I love Squarespace.

Of course, I’m available on an hourly basis for additional work on your site, but with the walk-through training I provide with your site, you’ll be empowered to update your site on your own, if you choose to do so! And, you get 30-days of free email consultations following your site launch.

  • My availability varies throughout the year, but I typically book a few weeks in advance. This is to ensure you will have plenty of time to complete the questionnaires and gather the content for your project. Always feel free to inquire about my current availability.

  • I want you to feel empowered to make updates to your site whenever you need! With a custom video tutorial, you will walk away feeling confident about being able to make updates here and there, as you see fit.

  • The design process is a collaboration, so your input is essential to the success of your brand. I'll be in touch regularly and ask for regular feedback to ensure you are always happy with the end result. If your availability is limited, please let me know in advance, so I can take that into account when I schedule your work.

  • The blogging feature on your site is one of the most powerful tools you can use to improve your site rankings; as long as you publish new content regularly and consistently. It is a tool that you can use creatively, and not necessarily for traditional blogging. You can use your blog to publish content related to events and exhibitions, upcoming products in your shop, press-related content, behind-the-scenes images, video tutorials, and so much more! Search engines like dynamic sites that are updated regularly, so it helps to get creative with this!

  • No problem! Additional revisions are billed at my hourly rate - $175/hour.

  • Most communication will be done via email, but once the design is underway and we are working on revisions, we will communicate via MarkUp.io, which makes it easy to collaborate on visual projects. I’ll explain how to use it before we get started.

  • Once I have received your final payment, I’ll share your site’s branding/design files in JPG (white background), PNG (transparent background), and SVG files.

You will also receive a branding guide with your brand colors and fonts for future reference.
